Land Transport Act 1998 (Public Act 1998 No. 110)

COMMENTS: The Land Transport Act 1998 provides definitions of “passenger service vehicle” and “small passenger service vehicle,” which are relevant to the provisions of the Smoke-free Environments Act 1990 that prohibit smoking in public transport.

Smoke-free Environments (Tobacco Standardised Packaging) Amendment Act 2016 (Public Act 2016 No. 43)

March 14, 2018

COMMENTS: The Smoke-free Environments (Tobacco Standardised Packaging) Amendment Act 2016 require tobacco products to appear in standardized (plain) packaging. As of March 14, 2018, manufacturers and importers are required to comply with standardized packaging requirements upon entry into force; distributors will have six weeks to transition; retailers will have 12 weeks to transition. As a result, all products offered for retail sale will be required to have standardized packaging as of June 6, 2018.

Smoke-free Environments Regulations 2017 (LI 2017/123)

March 14, 2018

COMMENTS: The Smoke-free Environments Regulations 2017 contain new requirements for health warnings required to appear on tobacco product packaging, as well as implementing details for the standardized packaging of tobacco products. All tobacco products offered for retail sale will be required to have standardized packaging as of June 6, 2018. These regulations repeal the Smoke-free Environments Regulations 2007.
